Determined to strike while the iron is hot, Cage The Elephant are prepping their sophomore set, scheduled to drop January 11.
The album’s actually been in the can for over a year, having laid down during a two-week span at Nashville’s Tragedy/Tragedy Studio in spring 2009. Jay Joyce worked the knobs for the 13-song set that’s been dubbed Thank You, Happy Birthday.
“We initially were living in England and came up with 80 song ideas, some complete, some not,” said Matt Schultz in an interview with Spinner. “We started working on the second record and basically scratched all those ideas. There were a lot of things happening at that time; personal growth and growth as a band. We ended up renting some cabins at a lake in Kentucky and isolated ourselves in the middle of winter. No cell phone reception — it kind of felt like Survivor.”
November 26 will see the release of a vinyl 7″ to coincide with Record Store Day’s “Black Friday” event. It’ll feature two new songs called Shake Me Down and Aberdeen.
According to Spinner the full track list looks like this:
Always Something
Aberdeen
Indy Kidz
Shake Me Down
2024
Sell Yourself
Rubber Ball
Right Before My Eyes
Tangled
Sabertooth Tiger
Japanese Buffalo
