I’ll Take A Ham On Rye And An Alejandro Escovedo

13 Aug

For those bands who’ve discovered that throwing in the T-shirt sells the record, it’s time to up the ante.

In the ongoing reinvention of the music industry — which has finally discovered the give-away-the-razor-sell-the-blades angle — Alejandro Escovedo has taken it one step further.

Glomming onto the sudden rage around food truck, Escovedo did two performances in LA on Wednesday atop a double-decker bus turned food truck call World Fare.

Escovedo did two 6-song sets atop the world’s first “busturant” to promote his new album Street Songs of Love and his appearance that night at the El Rey Theater.

Instead of giving away T-shirts to sell CDs, Escovedo offered a deal that has better stick-to-your-ribs appeal: two tickets to the El Rey show, a copy of the CD and a sandwich for $20.

Yeah, I’ll take the tofu Pad-Thai, some Miso soup and backstage pass to the David Bowie concert tonight. Oh, and a 6 pack of toilet paper.
